There are literally thousands of restaurants and small bars offering food in
the local area. Whether you like authentic Spanish cuisine, Mexican, Chinese,
Indian, Steak, there is something for everyone.
Eating out in Spain can be expensive, especially if you order off the menu.
For example, a recent Chinese meal for three with a couple of drinks each worked
out at around €58 (at the time the exchange rate was almost 1:1) or about
£54.00. The food was great, the service good and the staff friendly, the only
problem was the cost. The law in Spain states that eateries should provide a
menu del dia (menu of the day) which must be a three course meal with a drink
for €10 or under. Usually, the restaurants won't display this menu as it is not
in their interests to do so, although they are obliged to provide it if asked.
During this current economic climate however, many restaurants are placing the
menu del dia in a prominent position of their window to capture passing trade
and the portions aren't scrimped on either!
The only downside to this (if you can call it such) is that not all items on
the menu are available, but generally you do get a good selection. Add to this
that most of the Chinese restaurants are also all you can eat buffet style, with
a free bottle of wine when you pay, and look at the savings you can make.
