It has long been difficult to work out the exact cost of hiring your car when visiting Spain. There are normally many factors to take into account, which for the first time visitor may come as a surprise. Usually the company will quote you a cheap "base price" for the vehicle, usually around 5€- 10€ per day (depending on vehicle type and time of year). When you arrive, you then find you have ordered your vehicle on a full to empty basis which means purchasing an expensive tank of fuel and return the vehicle as close to empty as possible. You may also have purchased an extra insurance policy in the UK, which you may find that hire company will not accept. If you refuse to take the car hire companys' extra insurance, you can expect 1000€ plus to be debited from your credit card as a deposit against any damage, so make sure you check the vehicle carefully before leaving. At the end of this, the 70€ weekly hire, could now be around 200€ + the charge against your card for damage.
New for 2015, from a supplier we use on a regular basis is a "all inclusive" scheme, detailed below:
"Also we would like to remind you of our all inclusive rates as you may have noticed from the orange 'All Inclusive' banners. We are now offering this (rental price, full to full fuel policy and insurance with no excess) with Solmar and Drivalia so keep an eye out for the sign below showing this. We also have an all inclusive rate with Malagcar for Groups Group A - D that includes rental price, free additional driver, half full return half full fuel policy and full insurance with no excess. This can be quite a saving especially as the price of insurance with all companies has shot up."
Seems some of the hire agents are now listening to their customers!! We use Hirecarsinspain. This is not a recommendation, and other hire agents are available.
